Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp

Cooking Time:

Makes: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients:

non-stick cooking spray
Fruit
6 cups (1.5 L) medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
3 tbsp (45 mL) apple or orange juice
Crumb Mixture
2/3 cup (150 mL) firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup (125 mL) ROBIN HOOD® All Purpose Flour
1/2 cup (125 mL) ROBIN HOOD® Oats
1/2 tsp (2 mL) cinnamon
1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
1/3 cup (75 mL) CRISCO® All-Vegetable Shortening
1 tbsp (15 mL) milk
1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Heat oven to 375ºF (190°C). Toss apples with apple juice. Grease an 8-inch (2 L) square glass baking dish. Spoon apples into prepared dish.
2. For crumb mixture, combine brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. Combine milk and vanilla. Drizzle over crumbs while tossing with fork. Sprinkle over apples.
3. Bake at 375ºF (190°C) for 35 to 40 minutes or until fruit is tender, centre is bubbly and crumbs are browned. Serve warm with cream, whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
